The National Disability and Carer Alliance brings together people with a disability, service providers and carer organisations to work cooperatively to change the lives of Australians with disabilities and those who care for them.
The founders of the Alliance are Australian Federation of Disability Organisations, National Disability Services and Carers Australia. We have come together to pursue the structural and systemic changes necessary to improve the lives of people with a disability, their families and carers.
Our first and most important priority is to support and resource the campaign for a National Disability Long-term Care and Support Scheme (sometimes called a National Disability Insurance Scheme). We believe the scheme has the potential to transform the lives of people with a disability and those who care for them.
On 23 November 2009, the Prime Minister announced that the Productivity Commission had been commissioned to conduct a feasibility study into such a scheme and to report back by July 2011. The National Disability and Carer Alliance made a submission to the inquiry in July 2010.
We strongly encourage everyone to visit www.everyaustraliancounts.org.au to learn more about the scheme and to become a supporter of the campaign. Become a champion for change!

National Disability and Carer Congress: Make Every Australian Count
2-3 May 2011 at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne
This congress represents a not to be missed opportunity to examine, analyse, debate and discuss the proposal for a National Disability Insurance Scheme. The conference will examine the interim report on Disability Care and Support released by the Productivity Commission, hear from international experts regarding developments in disability policy around the world, and, most importantly, feature the hopes for reform of people with a disability, their families and carers. Attendees will also have the chance to hear what our elected representatives believe needs to be done to better support people with a disability, their families and carers in the community.
The time has come for transformational change - come along and hear what the future holds for people with a disability their families and carers and the organisations that support them in this country.
